Well Saturday morning started slow – it took a while to get coffee, but after two cafés we finally got fed and watered. The ride out of town was longer than we remembered. Everywhere we went to look at the beaches, there was either no parking or you needed a pass (same thing). So we hit the highway.
Two days earlier 5 hours in, now 3 hours out – mainly because the construction crews are off over the weekend.
The trip was uneventful even though Brian took the corners so fast, it seemed we would go over the cliffs edge. Nevertheless we made it to each stop in one piece. The next to final stop was the most interesting …… Cathedral Grove ……. with trees over 800 years old!
Gerda trying to cheer up the old tree!
Makes her look tiny ….. of course they would make anyone look small …. and here I thought you shrunk as you got older.
Lots of people stopping at the grove, probably cause it’s the only place around for 30km that you can use a toilet.
We got into Naniamo mid afternoon and pitted in, as we were both tired from the long and winding road – that would make a good song ….. ohhh, Gerda just informed me they did make it into a song! (strange name for a boy-band … the Beatles).
The Inn is on a lake beside the highway. It’s actually quite nice. Again two queen beds …. that settles it, next time we’re going to bring our lovers ….. oh, wait we did!
The room …..
The lake with boats, paddle boards and kayaks.
On the other side of the lake there are some uber rich homes on stilts …. I don’t think they have to worry about the water getting up that high!
After a nice, late breakfast at the Inn (why do they say it’s “free”, when it isn’t?), we drove to look at those uber homes and promptly got lost.
We finally did find them, but because of the slope and rocky terrain there wasn’t much yard ….. unless you counted 40 feet vertical as a yard (actually that would be 13 yards & a foot).
Oh well, I guess you really can never go back!
At least we found some more interesting dogs for Darcee ….
…. and another seadog
…… and for the grandkids, some starfish in the harbour ….
Tonight we may try the fish n chips at the harbour, we’ll see how the afternoon goes.
Next stop, Monday, August 22 ….. Victoria Pacific Hotel to see what we’ve been missing.
